The Parowan Dodgers are a baseball team of course. They are made up of boys primarily 11-12 years old.
The original team was formed as “Travel Ball” team to play in baseball tournaments throughout Northern, and Southern Utah, Mesquite, and even Las Vegas. The Dodgers are now playing Little League in Cedar City, and are sponsored by Harris Custom Cabinets. Harris Custom Cabinets is a highly regarded company that does the majority of their work in Cedar City.
Being that Parowan has such a small population, when it came time for Little League signups, there were only enough boys that signed up to form one team in the 11-12 year old age group. That is how these Little League Parowan Dodgers were formed.
In the few years past, Parowan teams would travel to Cedar City to play baseball and not win very many games. Cedar City has a great baseball program with two leagues, Cedar American and Cedar National. Each Cedar City League has approximately 8 teams in the 11-12 year old division. Cedar American and Cedar National teams are very well coached, organized and offer a competitive level of play. The Parowan Dodgers could be compared to the Bad News Bears. Twelve boys out on the baseball field, none of them having a whole lot of baseball experience. The team was formed and coached by Brett Harrison, a resident of Parowan. Brett has dedicated so much time, blood, sweat and tears into this team. These boys have had their share of lumps, errors, strike-outs, and defeats. These kids are also incredibly hard working, strong willed, and have all developed into good athletes. While Southern Utah is enjoying the beauty of fluffy, white snow, the Dodger’s from P-Town are hitting the indoor batting cage at 5 am, several times per week. They practice hitting baseballs thrown at them by drowsy coaches, pumped up pitching machines and even their own teammates. They are just barely awake when they are hitting “Whiffle balls” off of a tee, or hitting soft tossed “Smoosh Balls” into a net. When the weather allows, practice is held on the baseball field. Actually, to clarify, when it is not snowing, practice is held on the field even if it is barely above freezing. This team has a great work ethic, dedication, and is a great bunch of developing baseball players just having fun.
These guys are a lot of fun to watch. They have started the Little League season with a winning 3 – 0 record. Come on out and cheer these guys on. I know I will be.
