The Parowan area has a wonderful hiking trail called the Valentine Peak Trail. Although this trail has existed in some form or fashion for many years, a great effort was made recently to greatly improve it. Much of the credit for the recent improvements must go to Mr. Vito Locatelli of Parowan. This 3.5 mile long trail begins at the northeast corner of the Parowan cemetery and gains nearly 2000 feet of elevation ending at the top of Valentine Peak.
Beautiful views of the Parowan Valley, the Parowan Gap, the Tushar Mountains, rock formations near Valentine’s Summit, and of Brian Head Peak abound along this tranquil trail. Vito has provided three benches and a few chairs for resting and sightseeing along the route. If you make it to the top of the peak, you will see a bench and sign-in box – both of which Vito carried up on his own back.
This trail is clearly marked so even a first-timer to the area should be able to navigate all the way to the top and down again. An out and back totaling 7 miles round trip, this trail is not an easy climb and is considered moderate to advanced in difficulty. Although it is very safe, the elevation change can be challenging for less advanced hikers.
